Dr Tony Wilsmore

and veterinary epidemiologist

Dr
Wilsmore is a Director of PAN Livestock Services, and an Honorary Senior
Research Fellow at the Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics Research
Unit (VEERU) at the University of Reading. He lectures on Veterinary Epidemiology and Livestock Economics and supervises PhD
studies in the epidemiology of livestock diseases, their economic
effects and the design of programmes for their control.
He
has undertaken a series of long-term assignments in Kenya, Ethiopia,
Eritrea and Yemen, where he was team leader and Acting Director of
Veterinary Services, and has also carried out many short-term
consultancies for international agencies and NGOs.
Dr
Wilsmore has an outstanding academic and practical record in the field
of small ruminant health and production. He was Senior Lecturer at the
Royal Veterinary College, London where he directed the MSc course in
Animal Health and undertook studies on the epidemiology of ovine
perinatal disease. He subsequently developed a successful research
programme on the production and health of small ruminants with special
interests in perinatal disease, ectoparasites and vaccine development.
Recently, he has conducted research and consultancies on ruminant health and production in West Asia, South Asia, East and
Southern Africa and the Mediterranean region.
