QUALIFICATIONS:
Dr
Hanks has specialised for 15 years in the development of information
systems appropriate to the
needs and conditions of developing countries. He has worked with
livestock services in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Systems developed
range from national reporting systems for livestock services to on-farm
livestock recording to assist herd management decision making. He also
has considerable experience in the management of data from veterinary
diagnostic laboratories.
His
PhD was concerned directly with designing appropriate data collection
and analysis systems to provide useful information to livestock services
in developing countries. The system he developed is now in extensive use
in Latin America.
Dr
Hanks is a director of PAN Livestock Services. He has been associated
with the Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics Research Unit (VEERU) in
the Department of Agriculture at Reading University since 1983. He has
academic status at the unit.
