Sustainable Livestock Production: Organic Systems

PAN Livestock provides expert advice and consultation to farmers and service providers on animal health and welfare in organic livestock systems. Through the, Organic Animal Health Research Group, PAN Livestock co-ordinates the Network for Animal Health and Welfare in Organic Agriculture (NAHWOA) which includes15 research institutes from eleven EU countries. NAHWOA is a research forum for organisations involved in organic livestock production and aims to contribute to policy making and development of organic livestock production standards and to produce resource and support materials for the organic advisory services.

 Recent activities:

• Identification of health &welfare constraints in organic livestock systems, UK (MAFF).

• Control of mastitis in organic dairy production, UK (MAFF).
