PAN Livestock prioritises the development and support of practical tools for livestock specialists:

Database design

User-defined database construction with personalised data entry design is provided to a wide range of farmers, service providers, projects, government and non-government clients. Databases based on Microsoft Access^® , Microsoft SQL and Visual Basic^® are designed to develop and expand to meet the changing data needs of clients.

Visualisation tools

Advice on the development of information based decision support tools for livestock sector planners, including Geographic Information Systems, information access and dissemination tools, and Internet and Intranet technologies.

Recent activities:

• Investigating uses of GIS & database software to support livestock sector planning (FAO).

• Workshop on internet data recording and display techniques in Egypt, Israel, Palestine and Jordan (EDF).
